AN23-Vzense NYX series Time of Flight (ToF) camera performance demonstration when capturing black objects

Written By:Sophia.feng Updated: 2024-11-26

In 3D time of flight imaging technology, the reflectivity of the target object has a significant impact on the imaging performance. For example, when a ToF camera’s active light source illuminates a black object, its low reflectivity greatly reduces the light energy reflected back to the camera, resulting in poor imaging performance. This article primarily tests the imaging performance of the Vzense NYX series cameras on black targets.

Product introduction

The Vzense NYX series includes two products, the NYX650 and NYX660, which are based on pulsed indirect Time of Flight(P-iToF) technology. They feature a high signal-to-noise ratio and wide dynamic range, making them more effective at imaging black targets. In addition, this series of cameras has strong light resistance, prevention of range aliasing, and multi-machine coexistence. They are designed to industrial standards, providing high reliability and stability. The bottom of the cameras has a dual mounting screw hole design for easy structural integration and fixing. There is an optional waterproof design with aviation plugs, supporting IP67 high protection level. This article tests the NYX650, as the imaging performance of the NYX660 is identical to that of the NYX650, so the performance of the NYX650 can represent that of the NYX660.

Summary

From the performance demonstration above, it can be seen that the Vzense NYX series time of flight cameras have better performance on black objects. Even at a distance of 4.5 meters, effective imaging can still be achieved with the appropriate exposure time.
